[Review:Game] Splinter Cell Conviction Demo Review!

Post by alexoblivion on Fri Mar 19, 2010 12:21 am

First off, before I get blasted to the nearest moon, the demo was fun, and anyone who has the ability to download it should!

+ Side

.The option to pursue mission objectives in many varying ways is a welcome edition to the series
.The execution system is a nice touch that gives the game a VATS kind of feel, kind of...
.The mission objectives, at least in which they are presented, is original and fresh at least

- Side

.The AI is very questionable, the enemies just seem to follow a select path, and even when alerted just
roam in a predictable fashion. It's unbearably noticeable after a few playthroughs, or retries-whichever
you prefer
Example: Toward the end, I sneak at the beginning of the sewer entrance and grab a guy from
behind, who just finished having a conversation with two other guards, and guess what?
The other two didn't notice, at all. In fact, I sat in the corner, right in front of them and
execution's ensued.
.The stealth system is only two way, either you're hidden or your not. There is no partially hidden, or
"careful, they might SEE YOU, if you run in front of them!"
.Last, I'm sorry, but that damn portable EMP device is the most counter-productive piece of poop! Why
does it effect my vision if I'm using it! (Personal complaint)

Note: This is only a demo, and a fairly linear level, so it may not reflect the entire game at it's best, so
please keep that in mind while considering my points.

In the area where your objective is to move down. (Where there are 6 or so bad guys.) I climbed over the ledge below the floor and picked off people one at the time in this order:

-Hang from ledge
-Find a dude to shoot
-Shoot him
-Drop down and move forward to the ledge on the opposite side
-Climb Ledge while the dude's friends are looking over the previous ledge I was at previously.
-Rinse & Repeat.

The A.I. is a real let-down.

Video supporting both mine and Alex's points:

You'll need to download the video to view the whole thing.

(Youtube wouldn't let me upload it there, meh)
